USAID Partners with Uzbekistan to Reduce time required for Customs Clearance

In July, The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) invited Irina Swift, a technical specialist, with more than 40 years of experience working on customs issues to conduct a week long interactive workshop on risk management and electronic customs declaration filing.

The implementation of risk management and e-declaration procedures speeds the customs clearance process and address issues that can contribute to border delays. Improved customs clearance times can reduce costs for Uzbek businesses and increase Uzbek regional trade competitiveness.

Twenty-five Uzbek customs service officers attended the workshop to learn how international best practices can be applied here in Uzbekistan.  This training is part of USAID’s broader commitment to promote transparent customs administration processes in Uzbekistan.
