Two Uzbek start-ups were selected to pitch at the Global Climate Launchpad 2019, to be held in Amsterdam in November. The winner of the national final is the team “VIOM” that pitched a startup on production of water-soluble and biodegradable film for agricultural use. The runner up is team “Proteus” that has a startup on production of autonomous mini- and micro-hydroelectric power plants based on additive technologies (3D printing).
The pitch contest was held at the Uzbek Water Solutions Innovation Lab, which promotes green business solutions by accelerating startups in water, climate change, and other environmental sectors. The United States is proud to support the Water Solutions Innovations Lab through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
“Eco-friendly businesses bring more than just economic opportunity, they help preserve precious natural resources for future generations,” said Christopher Edwards, USAID Central Asia Regional Mission Director, in his opening remarks.
This year was the first time Uzbekistan participated in the Climate Launchpad Start-up Competition, which is the largest global green business ideas accelerator supporting innovative solutions in over 50 countries. The event, led by the Water Solutions Innovations Lab accelerator program under USAID’s Smart Waters program, aims to support and develop business ideas and projects of students, young scientists, and entrepreneurs in the fields of water conservation, renewable energy, energy efficiency, agriculture, and water supply to combat climate change.
