U.S. Embassy Tashkent to Screen “Hidden Figures”

On June 23, the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section will screen “Hidden Figures”, a 2016 drama film that was nominated for numerous awards, including three Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress) and two Golden Globes. The film grossed $229 million worldwide.

“Hidden Figures” tells the story of a team of brilliant female African-American mathematicians who played a vital role in NASA at a time when the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space. Based on the unbelievably true life stories of women, known as “human computers,” the film follows these smart women as they quickly rise through the ranks of NASA alongside many of history’s greatest minds. Tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, these women rose to the occasion and guaranteed his safe return.
