U.S. Embassy Statement

May 12, 2017

The U.S. Embassy takes note of the first-ever visit of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights May 10-11 and the successful visit of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly President May 7-10. These visits come at an important time and afford the government the opportunity to turn a page, complementing other encouraging steps with respect to media and the judiciary. The U.S. Embassy welcomes these developments and urges the government to continue efforts to improve human rights for the benefit of its citizens, and to achieve its own goals for reform and improved governance.
