U.S. Embassy and Uzbek Foreign Ministry Sign Amended Letter of Agreement

On 27 April, U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Pamela Spratlen and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov signed Amended Letter of Agreement #13.  It is the amendment to the August 14, 2001 Letter of Agreement on narcotics control and law enforcement assistance between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The amendment provides for implementation of a project funded by the United States Department of Defense, envisioning delivery of equipment, patrol boats and vehicles of a value not to exceed $6,200,000 in fiscal year 2014 (?) funds to the GOU on a grants basis.  The U.S. assistance will be distributed among the State Border Protection Committee of the National Security Service and the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan.

The goal of this Project is to assist law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Uzbekistan to develop investigative leads for disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations involved in illicit trade of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.
