June 11, 2019—A delegation from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Technical Assistance (OTA) arrived in Tashkent for meetings with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov, Chairman of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan Mamarizo Nurmuratov, Director of the Capital Markets Development Agency Atabek Nazirov, and other senior Uzbek Government officials.  The delegation, led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Larry McDonald, will be in Tashkent June 10-14 to explore technical assistance collaboration that would support Uzbekistan’s economic and financial goals.

A well-functioning financial sector is critical to achieving a country’s broader economic, political, and security objectives. The mission of the U.S. Treasury Department’s international assistance program, managed by the Office of Technical Assistance (OTA), is to support the development of strong financial sectors and sound public financial management in countries where assistance is needed and there is a strong commitment to reform.

OTA provides financial sector assistance in five core disciplines: revenue policy and administration, budget and financial accountability, government debt and infrastructure finance, banking and financial services, and economic crimes.
