Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad led an interagency delegation to Uzbekistan on December 10. He met with President of Uzbekistan Shavkhat Mirziyoyev, Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, Special Representative for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev, and other government officials to discuss ongoing cooperation between the United States and Uzbekistan to promote regional stability and support an inclusive peace process in Afghanistan. During his meetings, Special Representative Khalilzad noted the role Uzbekistan is playing in Afghanistan and underscored the importance of a regional approach to bring all Afghan parties to the negotiating table. He highlighted that the United States remains committed to facilitating a political settlement between the Afghan government and the Taliban that ensures Afghanistan never serves as a platform for international terrorism again.
