On May 20, 2015, a USAID Health Team led by Dr. Alex Golubkov, Senior Tuberculosis (TB) Technical Advisor from USAID Washington’s Bureau for Global Health, met with Dr. Mirzagaleb Tillyashaykhov, Director of the Uzbekistan National TB Program. Dr. Golubkov shared an opportunity to receive a new TB drug, Bedaquiline, for free through a donation program.
USAID is providing support to update TB policies and procedures that will enable Uzbekistan to meet requirements for effective integration and utilization of new TB drugs to treat patients with drug-resistant TB. They also discussed the importance of allowing new health implementing partners to work in Uzbekistan to provide a broader scope for stronger TB technical assistance. Ongoing USAID assistance in TB supports increased access to effective and improved treatment of people with TB in any form, to improve and save lives.
