The American Center Tashkent (ACT) is a part of the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent. Through its various activities and resources the library aims to promote a better understanding of the policies, values, institutions and culture of the United States. It provides a wide range of current, accurate and authoritative information from a vast selection of print and electronic resources using state-of-the-art technology.
The ACT maintains subscriptions to electronic databases, and has full Internet access and a compact reference book collection. The reference book collection includes information on American history, government, law, business, management, education, American Studies, American culture and literature, and educational advising materials (TOEFL, GMAT, etc). Registered ACT patrons can borrow books for a period of two weeks from the fiction collection and certain sections of the non-fiction collection.

The ACT collection can be accessed through the computerized Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). The online catalog contains records of all print and electronic resources available in the ACT and can be searched by author, title, subject, keyword, etc.
The ACT staff will readily answer your queries regarding U.S.-Uzbek relations, major treaties and agreements signed between the United States and Uzbekistan, U.S. policies in the region, as well as U.S. foreign policy more broadly. You can also get information about U.S. laws and how they are made, U.S. government reports and press releases, transcripts of speeches and statements made by U.S. officials, information about American culture, society, history, outstanding American figures, and the most accurate statistical data. Information inquiries may be made on site (individual consultations are available by appointment), by telephone, or email.
The ACT provides free access to high-speed Internet for conducting research. The ACT staff can provide patrons tips on Internet search techniques and offer advice on appropriate web resources.
Training/demonstration sessions on the resources and services of the ACT can be arranged for groups upon request.
