Chargé d’Affaires Brink welcomed participants to a three-day workshop (September 24-26) on infection control sponsored by CDC, DTRA, and USAID. The event aimed at providing important information to 39 healthcare professionals on the importance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), main routes of transmission and means of prevention. HAIs are a major public health concern in Central Asia.

In the past, the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Uzbekistan expressed great interest in collaborating with the USG agencies on supporting the widespread implementation of infection control measures throughout the country. In his opening remarks, Dr. Marufjon Madaminov, Director of the Center for Prevention and Quarantine of Especially Dangerous Infections at the Ministry of Health, highlighted the importance of the workshop and referenced the contributions of the USG in improving healthcare in Uzbekistan.
This workshop was the first joint CDC-DTRA-USAID project with the MOH aimed at strengthening infection control which laid valuable foundation for future collaboration.
